The Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine has set up a central mourning Council to commemorate Ashura entitled (Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas peace be upon him), in the Ghanaian capital Accra.
The council was overseen by the Department's Center for African Studies.
The director of the Center, Sheikh Saad Sattar al-Shammari, said that"the council, which came with the title-Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) - was held at the mosque of the Holy Prophet(may Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household), under the supervision and coordination of the center's preachers in Ghana, Sheikh Noah Issa and Sheikh Suleiman Yacoub.
He added that"the council was organized to revive Hussayni rituals in the African continent, and it is considered within the center's plan and program prepared for preaching work during the months of Muharram and Safar, and this comes within the framework of the center's efforts to enhance the cultural and religious level, with various African communities".
"The council, which was attended by a gathering of followers and lovers of Ahl al-Bayt(peace be upon them), reflects the center's commitment to communication and presence in different regions of the African continent," Al-Shammari said, noting that "it constitutes an important platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences and deepening cultural and scientific cooperation between different countries and cultures in the region.
