The staffs of the green belt department of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine have started the process of harvesting palm dates on a daily basis to supply the local market.
The assistant head of the Department, Mr. Tanweer Sadiq Saeed, said that"the specialized staff of the department has started harvesting the crop of palm fruits planted within the southern green belt, on a daily basis in conjunction with the date harvest season".
He added that " harvesting dates reaches about 150 bags per day, each one can hold 30 kilograms, and the dates are collected after harvesting in a warehouse allocated for this purpose and equipped with the necessary refrigeration devices and others, in order to save the dates until they are released to local markets after the end of the harvest process, which lasts more than a month.".
"The percentage of dates that will be harvested this year is expected to reach 250 tons, after reaching 120 tons last season," he added, noting that "the reason is due to the processing of the palm, fertilizing it and following up the process of watering it constantly".
