The southern green belt.. Environmental barrier walls and crop-producing oases

The Southern Green Belt project is one of the economically and environmentally viable projects in the province of Karbala.

Nasser Hussein Miteb, head of the green belt department at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, said that "the project stretches for a length of 27 kilometers from the northwest to the southeast of the province of Karbala, and has turned into a recreational destination for Karbala families because of its facilities capable of providing everything the family needs".

"The Green Belt project has other aspects of economic and environmental benefit, as it has so far produced more than 70 tons of dates, more than ten tons of Olives, as well as the production of vegetable crops that were marketed locally,"he added.

According to Miteb, the southern green belt is a barrier to the holy city of Karbala against dust storms, and more than 14 residential neighborhoods are located in its East and more than nine neighborhoods on the western side,"he said.
