The pope's representative in the Middle East praises the Iraqi Center for documenting crimes of extremism

The pope's representative in the Middle East, Reverend Professor Serumi Saboulj, praised the Iraqi Center for documenting crimes of extremism affiliated with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) Shrine, and its important role in redressing victims.

This came during his reception with the minister plenipotentiary for Religious Affairs in Hungary, by the Iraqi Center for documenting crimes of extremism in the city of Najaf.

The director of the center, Sheikh Dr. Abbas al-Quraishi, said:"the visit aims to bring interreligious points of view closer, continue dialogue and spread the concepts of peaceful coexistence between communities, through the Prevention of violent extremism and preventing the recurrence of crimes and genocides.

"Iraq has been subjected to various types of genocides committed by authoritarian regimes and extremist Takfiri groups, but it has become more cohesive despite its cultural and religious diversity,"he added.

"The center is working to document the genocides that all Iraqi components have been subjected to, including working to document the crimes committed by the defunct Baath regime and extremist Takfiri gangs against Christians,"he said.

For his part, the Reverend Professor Serumi Sabolj praised the work of the Iraqi Center for documenting extremist crimes, and its important role in redressing victims by documenting what they were subjected to violations, crimes and exterminations, stressing that" the center is an important step in preserving memory, and in doing so it is comparable to the documentation centers on the European continent".
