Green belt Department: production of strategic crops has increased significantly over the past two years

The head of the southern green belt department at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, Mr Nasser Hussein Miteb, confirmed the high production rates of strategic crops planted in the project over the past two years.

"The project has become productive and supplies the local market with the finest types of agricultural crops with high productivity rates during the period of the holy shrine's assumption of the task of reviving this project in less than two years and transforming it from neglect and extinction to production and prosperity,"Miteb said.

He added that "the production of dates has reached more than (300) tons over the past two years, and more than (10) tons of Olives after the green belt was unproductive, while the project produced more than (20) tons of vegetables of various varieties, including (eggplant, cucumber, okra, legumes, etc.) to supply the host restaurant of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, in addition to the local market".

The staff of the department paid special attention to the cultivation of two types of palms, because of their great importance to the Karbalai family and factories producing foodstuffs, as these special dates enter the vinegar industry and other industries, while the other dates support the local market, as well as the cultivation of other rare varieties.

The Al-Abbas's (p) Shrine has revived the Southern Green Belt project of Karbala governorate with a length of (27) km and a width of (100) meters, in which more than (17) thousand palm trees, more than (23) thousand olive trees and about (17) thousand trees such as eucalyptus and other seasonal vegetables, plants and flowers were planted.
