Ali Al-Sabti, a researcher at the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) Shrine, presented a research paper entitled "The role of the media in promoting critical thinking and enhancing resistance to harmful ideas" at the first national scientific conference held by the digital Observatory for combating terrorism in Baghdad.

The conference was held under the slogan (sound thinking for a conscious society) under the auspices of the chairman of the Shiite endowment Bureau, Dr. Haydar Hassan al-Shammari, and under the supervision of his undersecretary for religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Ihsan Ja'far Ahmad.

The research reveals the vital role played by the media in promoting critical thinking and its contribution to strengthening resistance to harmful ideas, it also addresses the impact of the media on shaping and guiding public opinions and perceptions, and provides a review of the various roles played by the media through providing information, analysis and photography, and how these roles can be used to enhance awareness and the ability to think openly and critically.

The research shows through examples and practical research how the media can be a powerful tool to help individuals develop their ability to distinguish reliable information from false ideas and media manipulation, and highlights the importance of guiding the public and teaching them how to think critically, and enabling them to resist the harmful effects of the media.

The research shows the importance of enhancing media education and awareness of the media among the public, as it is necessary to encourage critical thinking, search for reliable sources, and training to distinguish between news and influential ideas, stressing that enhancing the role of the media as a means to promote critical thinking and fortify thought is a joint responsibility between media and educational institutions and the public itself.
