The surgeons of Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital succeeded in performing two operations at the same time to stabilize the vertebral fracture and remove a tumor from the chest that was discovered in the examination of a sixty-year-old patient from Karbala governorate.
Dr. Hossam al-Anbari, a specialist in spinal surgery at the hospital, said:" a 62-year-old patient was received with a fracture of the fifth and eighth thoracic vertebrae as a result of falling from a high place and was suffering from severe pain, "indicating that"we discovered in the examination the presence of a tumor in the patient's chest area, which prompted us to form a medical team with thoracic and vascular surgery."
"We had the operation to stabilize the broken thoracic vertebrae and it went very well, and at the same time the thoracic surgery team continued with an operation in which they were able to remove the tumor,"he added.
For his part, the specialist in Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the hospital, Dr. Hassanein al-Mousawi, said that "the operation was an emergency and we were able to remove the tumor completely without any complications for the patient, who is in good health".
"The tumor is of a hematogenous type, and its size is large, and it is located inside the right cavity in the chest area and we found a number of blood vessels feeding it,"explained al-Mousawi.
