Mirrors with bright colours and beautiful geometric forms cover the wall and ceiling of the holy shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas's (peace be upon him)..

Among the works carried out by the engineering maintenance department at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, are the works of maintenance and restoration of any part of the holy shrine with the possibility to add modern touches while maintaining the essence and origin of each piece to preserve the layout of the Islamic architecture in it. And among the projects overseen by the department is the project of the replacement of the mirror pieces on the walls and ceilings of the holy shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) conducted by the unit of mirrors and engravings at the mentioned department.

The works in this project have been divided to many parts surrounding the holy shrine, including the dome from inside, under the condition that the works should not intersect with the movement of visitors through their Zyarat rituals. The official of the mirrors and engravings unit, Mr. Hassan Saeed Mahdi explained to the Al-Kafeel Network: "The project includes many stages that involve removing the old mirrors and the maintenance of the walls' cracks and the stalactites' structures and replacing them with new structures manufactured out of "White block" which is characterized by its strength, durability and light weight. The works include also the replacement of the damaged electrical installation lines with new lines and manufacturing new glass frames for the lighting lamps, our of a durable material resistant to the heat of the lamps."

Adding: "According to the designed plan of this project, the walls and ceilings will be covered with diverse geometric shapes to form a glass mosaic, which are made up of stalactites, -Islamic and plant- engravings and geometric shapes, using the best types of mirrors in the region, which are of consistent colours and symmetrical to the inner design of the holy shrine. Important quantities of this glass were imported from international origins to be designed and cut into beautiful geometric patterns within the mirrors and engravings unit at the holy shrine."

And he continued saying: "We started the works at the side of the gate of the Euphrates (Al-Alqami) inside the holy shrine near the holy grid, including also the implementation of new designs of the arches near the gate of the roof according to the current design, choosing Indigo as it is considered a colour commensurate with the holy place and in line with the existing Kashi Karbalai. Then, we will move to the rest of the places inside to holy shrine, with new design and bright colours to make it as beautiful as what exists in the holy shrine."
