Amid the presence of the Secretaries of the offices of holy shrines, general libraries, libraries of Iraqi universities and research institutions, the first Forum for indexing and classification was held on Friday 21st of Jumada Al-Ula 1436 AH corresponding to the 13th of March 2015, In which Sahla 'Alwan, a competent researcher in the management of libraries and informational science related to indexation, has presented a new sight in the world of classification and indexation, urging on unifying efforts and investing all potential for the development of this field, unifying visions and benefiting from those with expertise and competence, such as the library of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, which now has a considerable experience in this area, trying to create a common framework for collective action in order to achieve the sharing of resources, reducing the costs resulting from repeated indexation operations in more than one site of libraries and unifying the rules and techniques in cataloguing and classification processes.
The Forum's evening session Chairman Dr. Adel Nadheer explained to the Al-Kafeel Network the following: "During today's meeting of the Indexation Forum held by the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, we have hosted the Dr. Sahla 'Alwan who is a specialist in the management of libraries and informational science related to indexation, and she explained to us the indexation and its kinds and highlighted the aim for which she came, which is the characterization of indexing problems in the Arab libraries, especially the Iraqi ones, and to stand on the most prominent proposals that could contribute to solve those problems."
Adding: "During the meeting, there were many interventions of the attendance that have enriched the debate in indexing problems. Also, a set of proposals and recommendations have been suggested to the supreme supervising committee of this Forum to apply it with transparency in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education or libraries and scientific and research institutions within and outside Iraq. these recommendations will be formulated in order to send it to the responsible parties."
And stating: "I think that the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine by its department of Iraqi libraries is a pioneer in this field as this is one of the most important issues for the study of libraries and information centres, and without which the libraries will become just treasures stores of which it is difficult to take advantage."
In conclusion, the participants in this forum who, have considered it as a good opportunity to find solutions to the problems faced in the libraries world, were honoured. They have called the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine to expand its activities to include other library departments and hoping at the same time to apply the recommendations of this forum on the ground.
