The United Nations investigative team to promote accountability for crimes committed by Da'esh /ISIL (UNITAD), published a report to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Speicher massacre.
the United Nations expressed, in the report, its thanks to the Iraqi Center for the documentation of extremist crimes, affiliated with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, for its great efforts in providing valuable evidence revealing the suffering of the victims of the massacre.
The report classified the massacre as a composite crime that includes three international crimes: genocide, a crime against humanity, and a war crime.
"We extend our sincere thanks to the director of the Iraqi Center for the documentation of extremist crimes, Dr. Abbas Atiyah al-Quraishi, for hosting the investigation team on several occasions and facilitating communication with victims and exchanging valuable evidence that reveals the plight of Speicher soldiers and student volunteers,"the report said.
UNITAD stressed that the evidence provided by the Iraqi Center represents an important step towards achieving justice and accountability for the terrible crimes committed against innocent people, and praised the joint cooperation between national and international bodies to strengthen legal accountability and ensure that the perpetrators do not go unpunished.
UNITAD called for continued cooperation and coordination between the various parties concerned to document crimes and violations, and support the investigation and prosecution efforts.
This appreciation comes within the framework of the commitment of the Iraqi Center for the documentation of extremist crimes to promote human rights, achieve justice for the victims, and ensure accountability for the perpetrators of serious international crimes, stressing the importance of collecting evidence and documenting it accurately and reliably to ensure the achievement of justice.
Earlier, the Iraqi Center announced the documentation of (2157) martyrs of the Speicher massacre in the city of Tikrit.
This came during a research session at the conference on the tenth anniversary of the Speicher massacre, which was held as part of the activities of the eighth edition of the annual fatwa of the Holy Defense cultural festival.
The director of the Center, Dr. Abbas al-Quraishi, said that"the statistics on the number of martyrs reached by the center confirm the martyrdom of (2157) victims of the students of the Speicher base".
He pointed out that"the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine is the only institution that has a comprehensive statistic of the number of victims of the massacre, and these data have been collected from the Ministry of Defense, judicial decisions, databases of the Department of Forensic Medicine, in addition to conducting a comprehensive analysis of these data to extract the total number of victims."
