The staffs of the southern green belt department of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine began harvesting pomegranates from its orchards in the city of Karbala.
The head of the Department, Mr. Nasser Hussein Mit'eb, said:"the staff working in the department started harvesting pomegranates, which is an Agricultural Experiment for the first year, and the results exceeded expectations, as the amount of pomegranates produced is equal to the production of nine orchards, which allowed exporting them to local markets, in addition to other crops such as eggplants, vegetables, and some crops grown in greenhouses."
He pointed out that "the Department seeks to provide high-quality local agricultural products, and continues its work in promoting agricultural diversity and combating desertification".
The southern green belt department supplies the local markets with crops grown inside it periodically and continuously, and also represents an outlet for generous families and visitors coming to Karbala governorate, making it a city for religious and recreational tourism.
