A delegation from the Department of intellectual affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine met with the permanent representative of Iraq to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Abdul Karim Hashim.
The delegation, represented by the Iraqi Center for the documentation of extremist crimes of the department, explained its participation in the first international conference on Enforced Disappearance, held by the International Convention for the protection of all persons from Enforced Disappearance initiative, in cooperation with the United Nations, in Geneva from 15 to 16 January 2025, with the participation of 122 countries from around the world.
The delegation reviewed the efforts of the center in documenting the crimes committed by the defunct Baath regime and extremist groups against the Iraqi people, in addition to its efforts in transferring those crimes to international organizations to ensure accountability of those responsible and achieve justice.
The center's delegation included a number of families of victims of the Baathist regime's crimes, including a prisoner, forcibly disappeared persons, the official spokesman for the families of the victims of the Speicher massacre, Dr. Qais al-Aidi, in addition to the electronic participation of Dr. Qais Nasser, a member of the center.
