Pain memory conference.. Efforts to document the tragedies and wars that Iraq went through

The Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine sponsors the events of the annual International Conference entitled"Memory of pain in Iraq: a century of crimes, genocides, massacres and violations.

The conference will be held in cooperation between the UNESCO chair for Genocide Prevention Studies at the Faculty of Arts - University of Baghdad, the Iraqi Center for documentation of extremist crimes affiliated to the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the holy shrine, the Martyrs Foundation, the political prisoners Foundation, and the Supreme National Authority for accountability and justice, on April 16-17, 2025.

The conference reviews the memory of the pain experienced by Iraq, starting from the British occupation, through successive political regimes, up to the American occupation, the crimes of terrorist organizations, and the massacres committed against minorities of the Iraqi people, with the aim of finding remedies to prevent the recurrence of these tragedies in the future.

The conference establishes an Iraqi national memory by documenting the tragedies, wars and violations that the Iraqi people have experienced objectively and credibly through the research that will be presented in it.

The conference is of great importance reflecting the reality of the Iraqi people and their suffering in different time periods, and provides solid scientific research that contributes to supporting research fields in Iraqi or regional universities.

The conference aims to overcome the past by building an Iraqi national identity against extremism; in order to ensure a secure future for future generations free from pain, and to record The Crimes of extremism and present them to international public opinion; to contribute to addressing the social and psychological effects of violence, genocide, crimes and violations.

The conference will include a workshop entitled (Memory of the Speicher crime, memory of the place, execution, brutal violations, and their social, psychological and security dimensions), organized by the Speicher 1700 victims association, in cooperation with the UNESCO chair for genocide prevention studies.

The conference will be held in the holy city of Karbala on April 16 and 17, and aims to shed light on the historical challenges and crimes suffered by Iraq, while providing visions and solutions to build a future of justice and peace.
