He is the Imam Al-Hassan son of Ali son of Abi Talib (peace be upon them), he was born on the mid of the holy month of Ramadan in the third year of migration. As for his birth (peace be upon him), it is narrated that when the day the child was to be born was approaching; the Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) had to go out of town, but before leaving, he (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) made several instructions about the would be born child, including the order not to wrap the new baby in a yellow cloth.
On Ramadhan 15, 3 A.H., Lady Fatima az-Zahra (peace be upon her) gave birth to her first son. On that great day, Asma Bint Umais was present with Fatima az-Zahra (peace be upon her). The women who attended the event, unintentionally wrapped Al-Hassan (peace be upon him) in a yellow cloth; they were not aware of the Prophet's (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) request.
When the Prophet returned, he said: "Bring me my son; what have you named him?"
After Al-Hassan (peace be upon him) was born Fatima az-Zahra (peace be upon her) asked Imam Ali (peace be upon him) to name the baby, but Imam Ali (peace be upon him) said: "I would not name him before Allah's Prophet".
When the Prophet saw that Al-Hassan was wrapped in a yellow cloth, he said: "Didn't I tell you not to wrap him in a yellow cloth?"
He then threw the yellow cloth away and wrapped the baby in a white one. When the Prophet inquired about the name of the child, Imam Ali (peace be upon him) answered: "I would not name him before you."
The Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) replied: "I too, would not name him before my Lord, Glory be to Him."
At that moment Allah the Almighty revealed to Gabriel: 'A son was born to Muhammad, therefore descend and give him My blessings and congratulate him and say: "Surely Ali is to you as Haroun was to Musa, so give him (the newborn baby) the name of Haroun's son:"'
When Gabriel had revealed the message to the Prophet, he asked: "What was Haroun's son's name?" Gabriel said: "Shubbar."
The Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) then said: "My tongue is Arabic."
Gabrial said: "Name him Al-Hassan."
Hence, the Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) gave him the name Al-Hassan (peace be upon him), and made Adhan in his right ear, and Iqamah in his left ear. On the seventh (7th) day, he (Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household)) sacrificed two rams from which he gave the midwife a thigh, and a dinar; he then shaved the baby's head and gave as charity the weight of his hair in silver. Finally, the Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him an dhis holy Household) wiped the baby's head with "Khalou" which is a special perfume made of saffron and other substances.
He would embrace Al-Hassan (peace be upon him) and put his tongue in the baby's mouth, which would suckle it.

And it is narrated that Umm Al-Fadl had a dream; surprised and confused, she went to the Messenger of Allah (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) seeking the interpretation of her dream. Umm Al-Fadl explained to the Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household), “Messenger of Allah, I saw in my dream that a part of your body was in my house!”
The Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) then interpreted, “Fatima (my daughter) will give birth to a boy who you will nurse with the milk of Quthm (meaning her son)." She said then: "She (peace be upon her) gave birth to Hassan and gave him to me, and I breastfed him until he started moving and then I weaned him."
Imam Al-Hassan (peace be upon him) was known by his acute intelligence, it is narrated that he (peace be upon him) was attending the Majalis of the Messenger of Allah (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) while he was less than seven years old, and used to listen to the speech of the Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) and the verses of the Holy Quran newly revealed to him, he (peace be upon him) returned to his pure mother (peace be upon her) at home, to tell her all that he heard without an increase or decrease. When his father; Imam Ali (peace be upon him) went back home, he used to find Lady Fatima (peace be upon her) fully briefed of the speech of the Holy Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household), and when he (peace be upon him) asked her about it, she replied: It is all from your son Al-Hassan.
