Alwafi Foundation: documentation is a necessity to protect the memory of generations and build an awareness that immunizes them for the future

The head of the al-Wafi foundation for documentation and studies at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, Mr. Ahmed Sadeq, stressed that documentation is a necessity to protect the memory of generations and build an awareness that immunizes them for the future.

This came during the activities of the first memory enhancement festival in Najaf province, organized by the University of Kufa, under the auspices of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine represented by the al-Wafi foundation for documentation and studies, under the slogan (lessons of the past ... the beginning of the future); in order to shed light on the crimes suffered by the Iraqi people, by the former regime and Takfiri groups."

Sadeq said:"the first memory enhancement festival aims to convey an important awareness message to university students and the children of this generation about the reality of what happened in the era of the defunct regime and contemporary terrorism.

"The lack of historical awareness of the massacres and violations that took place against the Iraqi people created a fog in the understanding of many young people who did not live through the period of the past regime, and made some of them look at that stage as it was a beautiful time,"he added.

"The festival highlights the crimes committed during the previous regime, and shows that the Terrorism that followed it was only an extension of that era within a series of crimes that targeted Iraqis,"he added.

"The festival included various awareness-raising events, including: screenings of documentary films recounting the sequence of events, honoring the families of the martyrs of the victims of the defunct regime and those who fought terrorism, in addition to presenting scientific research on the importance of documentation and its role in protecting the memory of future generations, and the establishment of an exhibition containing documents, photos, collectibles and scenes documenting the crimes committed," stressing that "these materials provide an impactful visual message, contribute to building a firm awareness among young people, and establish a national memory that immunizes them from repeating mistakes in the future."

Sadeq concluded his speech by saying: "from this point of view, the festival carried its slogan (lessons of the past ... the beginning of the future); to emphasize the importance of documentation and historical awareness in building a secure future for future generations".
