The activities of the first day of the annual International Conference (memory of pain in Iraq) witnessed the holding of a workshop to shed light on the Speicher crime presented by Dr. Mahmoud al-Qaisi and Dr. Salah al-Jabri from the University of Baghdad.

The conference is organized by the Iraqi Center for the documentation of extremist crimes, affiliated with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, in cooperation with the UNESCO chair for Genocide Prevention Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Baghdad University, the martyrs and political prisoners institutions, the Higher National Authority for accountability and justice, and the University of Baghdad.

The conference is being held under the slogan (for a future free of pain), and the title (memory of pain in Iraq, a century of crimes, genocides, massacres and violations); with the aim of reviving national identity and enhancing collective awareness and emotional spirit, in a way that enhances social cohesion, and helps protect society from New tragedies.

Al-Jabri said:"the workshop came as part of a preliminary (descriptive - explanatory) study, conducted by the UNESCO Chair in cooperation with the Speicher association composed of the martyrs' fathers, and focuses on the humanitarian and legal dimensions of the massacre, through questionnaires and direct meetings with the victims ' families."

"The study included in the workshop showed the extent of the suffering that the families of the martyrs of the victims of that crime are still suffering today,"he added.

He explained that"the workshop included the presentation of a number of recommendations, the most prominent of which is to emphasize the need to take care of the families of the martyrs, and work to repair the psychological, moral and material damage caused to them, as this is a step towards achieving social justice and establishing a sound ground for national reconciliation".
