The Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department of the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine held Hussaini mourning councils in the African countries of Nigeria and Mali, coinciding with the beginning of the holy month of Muharram.
The African Studies Centre affiliated with the department supervises the mourning councils as part of its outreach program to revive the days of Ashura on the African continent.
The council was held in the Nigerian city of Kaduna in coordination with Sheikh Ibrahim Musa and Sheikh Shams al-Din Abdullah, and it witnessed a wide attendance from the followers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and their admirers. Sheikh Hashim Garba Badko ascended the Hussaini pulpit and delivered a lecture that addressed the meanings of the Hussaini revolution and its spiritual and social dimensions, emphasising the importance of following the path of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) in resisting oppression and establishing the values of justice, awareness, and dignity in Islamic societies.
The centre organised a mourning council in the capital, Bamako, in the Republic of Mali, discussing the importance of reviving the first ten days of the month of Muharram, due to their doctrinal and educational significance linked to the revolution of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), and their role in establishing the principles of truth and justice in Islamic societies, especially in the African continent.
The African Studies Centre continues its efforts in organising mourning councils in various African countries, as part of a comprehensive vision aimed at spreading religious awareness and instilling the values of the Hussaini principles in the hearts of generations.
