The Hussaini mourning processions continue their various activities on the evening of the third day of the month of Muharram, to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-Hussayn and his family and companions (peace be upon them) on Ashura.
The processions continue with the Karbala mourning marches throughout the month of Muharram, as the mourning processions from the people of Karbala gather in the holy precincts to commemorate the tragedy of the martyrdom in an ongoing annual tradition.
The movement of the processions is organised according to a meticulous plan devised by the Department of Rituals, Processions, and Hussainiyah Organisations, for the procession to traverse specific streets, starting from the Bab al-Qibla of the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), passing through his holy courtyard, heading through the area between the two holy shrines, and concluding the mourning at the shrine of the Master of Martyrs, Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him).
The Rituals Department assigns teams from its staff to accompany each procession from the moment it starts, responsible for organising the march, preventing gatherings or overcrowding, and ensuring there is no intersection between the processions or with the visitors, according to previously defined routes.
These events witness wide participation from various segments of society, embodying the feelings of sorrow and loyalty to Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), his family, and his companions on the painful Ashura anniversary.
