Within the continuous and ongoing reconstruction campaign taking place in the Al-abbas's (p) holy shrine, and in continuity of its interior urban projects, the restoration and maintenance of the ground floor's Ewans of the holy shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him), which is one the projects included by the expansion project of the holy shrine.
It was taken into account in the design and construction that the arcs are covered in a similar way of the ewans of the second floor to create a state of architectural harmony and to preserve the archaeological and heritage character of the holy shrine. After the completion of the systems' installations (electricity, fire, cameras, sounds, alarm), which are a part of the systems used in the holy shrine, operations of covering the Ewans were initiated, first with plaster and "bayad" to install the Kashi Karbalai, which is one of the works that needs high accuracy, skills and expertise in the execution.
The head of engineering projects at the Al-abbas's (p) holy shrine -the authority supervising the design and the execution of the project- engineer Dea' Majeed Al-Sa'egh stated to the Al-Kafeel Network: "The project of the maintenance and covering the ground floor's Ewans of the sanctuary of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) is and extention of the restoration project of the Ewans of the Al-abbas's (p) holy shrine, which included in its first phase the top floor, by building and covering its Ewans and it has been completed four years ago, and a full construction of the Ewans of the second floor on the four sides of the fence and covering all Ewans and rooms' interfaces with the Muqarnas of Kashi Karbalai for all its arches then covered the rest with the Kasi Karbalai, then installing the systems of lighting, cameras and sounds, and connecting all Ewans' networks within a common system in an integrated control room, and which design and execution in terms of inscriptions were similar to those used in the ground floor's Ewans."
He continued: "The works of maintenance and restoration of the 57 ground floor's Ewans were in several stages, the first one was of uprooting the old Kashi Karbalai on a regular basis and then taking out the consumed bricks, then installing the frames and overlapping arches that form what is called Ewans' decoration in yellow and black, which is shaped in several curved forms that give the beautiful old architectural design."
Adding: "The restoration process of the Ewans is one of the main and important stages of the Expansion project of the holy shrine of Al-Abbas (peace be upon him), as it is one of the main interfaces that give a beautiful sight by stimulating the past in a modern way, which is done by replacing it with new Kashi Karbalai of the same type that will cover the interfaces of the new Ewans. The area of the new Kashi for each side of the Ewans is of 10.000m2 for the two floors."
Mr. Al-Sa'igh also explained: "The Kashi Karbalai used in this operation was manufactured with high-quality machines with a pressure force that reaches 800 tons, and that is characterized by its fine and straight borders and its flat interior and external surfaces which is equivalent to Kashi ceramica (farfurii) in its equal ribs and sharp angles, and also the stability and brightness of the used colours as most of them are water colors with the addition of gold -German origin- in different rates ranging between (30 to 50%). I has taken into account the used on same colours and patterns existing in the old Ewans and arches' columns in order to preserve the architectural heritage an also for its high resistance to the most difficult weather conditions, which is a feature that made it unique and gave it the perpetuity and sustainability for long periods that last for hundreds of years."
