The assistant head of the department, Engineer Kadhem Saleh Mahdi, said that "the department's staff have prepared precise schedules and timelines to organise the movement of the mourning processions, to avoid any gatherings or congestion that could disrupt the flow of visitors," noting that "there is close monitoring of the quality of services provided by the service processions to ensure their compliance with health standards."
He added that "the department worked on coordinating with the engineering maintenance department to provide technical support for the processions, including connecting the electricity and water networks, and facilitating the construction aspects related to visitor services."
He pointed out that "the department had previously worked on issuing the legal guarantees for the processions within the area surrounding the two holy shrines, in coordination with the Karbala Police Command, to facilitate the entry of the necessary logistical materials needed by the processions during the service period."
Since the first day of the month of Muharram, the city of Karbala has witnessed the launch of the Karbala mourning processions in marches that have traversed its streets, commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), his family, and his companions. These mourning activities have continued throughout the month, in an annual tradition that the city's residents have become accustomed to reviving.
