The rituals have been carried out in the presence of huge assembly that filled the two holy shrines and in the area between them, and followed through a direct media coverage of a number of satellite channels and the websites of the two holy shrines.
The beginning as usual was at the holy shrine of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) by the recitation of verses of the Holy Quran by the reader Usama Al-Karbalai, followed by the word of the head of the Shiite Endowment Sayed. 'Alaa Al-Musawi, in which he stated: "We replace today the red flag with the black one, but we are sure that the red flag which indicates that the revenge is remaining, and that the blood of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) is still boiling, asking for the right of the oppressed from the oppressor all along lifetime."
Stressing: "The fluttering flag of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) is a declaration that the true Islamic religion is still walking on the right Mohammadian path."
Then, came the word of the Secretary-General of Imam Al-Hussayn's (p) holy shrine; Sheikh Abd Al-Mahdi Al-Karbalai, in which he stated: "Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended from the sky to present the condolences to the Messenger of Allah (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) for the tragedy of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) since his birth, and if the angels descend every year to present the condolences to the Prophet, Why don't we renew the condolences every year?!"
Explaining while speaking to the crowds:" Ye, brethren, the promise of the Messenger of Allah (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) to his daughter Fatima (peace be upon her), to hold the mourning for Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) in every time and place. So Congratulates to you for this great honor."
And on funeral tunes, the rituals of taking down the red flag and raising in its place the black one on the dome of the shrine of Aba Abdillah Al-Hussain (peace be upon him).
Then, the crowds headed towards the holy shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) to replace the flag of his holy dome. The Secretary-General of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine; Sayed. Ahmed Al-Safi delivered a word in which he said: "Dear brothers and sisters, we are used each year to be at your service to learn from you while you are renewing your covenant to the master of Martyrs (peace be upon him). And you know, like your enemies know that Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) is a cinder of love in the heart of the believers that does not extinguish, no matter how hard his enemies try to create barrier between you and in front of you, using the killing and the intimidation but this love remains stronger."
Adding: "The slogan (Abad wAllah ma ninsa Hussaynah [Never, by Allah, we will forget Hussayn]) will remain forever, because the path of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) is the real life in this world and the hereafter, and because he is the real extension of the eternal divine message brought by the seal of the Messengers, the prophet Muhammad (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household)."
Stressing while speaking to the crowds: "There are some brothers who were accustomed to be present with us every year, but there is something that prevented them to come, as they are now in the battlefield defending our being and our dignity, and despite the very difficult conditions they are going through, they don't loose their determination. So, I ask you to raise your hands to pray for their brilliant and urgent victory over their enemies."
Then, Mr. Ali Al-Saffar announced that the holy shrine of Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) is used to receive every year a flag from one of Iraq's provinces, And this year, the flag was presented by Baghdad. Then the red flag has been replaced by the black one on funeral tunes -like in the holy shrine of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him)-. And finally the rituals were concluded by a condolences Majlis led by the Hussayni Radood Bassem Al-Karbalai.
