The Department of holy shrine's care at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine started its periodic cleaning works carried out for the dome and the two minarets of the shrine of Abu Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him), due to the vagaries of climate and weather conditions which often have a negative impact on the golden tiles that cover the dome and the two minarets of the sacred shrine, in form of calcifications that reduce the glitter and shime of the golden tiles, so the mentioned department will clean them on a regular basis to sustain them and increase their lifetime avoiding their erosion caused by these conditions.
Usually the cleaning is done after the summer and the end of the dust storm season. and because these climatic fluctuations and the weather conditions have an impact on the work of cleaning the golden tiles covering the domes and two minarets, they are carried out according to a special plan, dividing the dome to five sections during the cleaning, each day, one section is cleaned, and once all of them are completely cleaned, the cleaning works start at the minarets, using special cleaning material and equipment that do not affect the gold tiles, and using a cotton piece of cloth to dry the tiles, as if left without being dried, sediments stick to them, in form of calcifications that reduce the glitter and shine of the holy dome. All of which is undertaken respecting the time factor and the accuracy in work. The first phase included the cleaning of the holy dome for the eastern side of the Euphrates Gate (Al-'Alqami) counterclockwise and from top to bottom, i.e from the holy flag to the base of the dome, followed by the cleaning of the minarets.
It is to mention that before many years, the cleaning works were undertaken by staff from outside of the holy shrine, but thanks to God Almighty and the blessings of the owner of this holy shrine, today all the cleaning works are conducted by the staff of the department, who have gained sufficient experience on how to perform the cleaning and the used mechanism to make the holy dome and the two minarets shine in the perfect way, fitting with the sanctity of the owner of this holy shrine (peace be upon him).
