The Gifts and Vows Reception Department at the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine clarified the mechanism for receiving and safeguarding lost belongings for visitors.
The head of the Lost and Found department, Mr. Ali Muhammad Ali, stated that "the department relies on an organised mechanism through its financial and material units to receive and store lost property for visitors, and return it to them after they review the department and confirm its ownership."
He added that "the financial unit's work involves receiving all Iraqi and foreign currencies found by visitors, documenting them in official records, and storing them in designated places for a period of no less than one year. After the year or the Islamic year has passed, they are handed over to the relevant authorities according to the directives of the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine administration."
Ali explained that "the tasks of the evidence unit include preserving gold and jewellery, as all pieces are recorded in special registers and stored in secure boxes. Other items such as rings, watches, prayer beads, and glasses are also included. As for mobile phones, they are recorded and stored in designated places to be displayed in an exhibition for their owners to identify."
He pointed out that "the department has been retaining a collection of official documents for several years, kept securely until their owners request their retrieval, reflecting its commitment to providing an organised and responsible service to all visitors."
