The competition was held in commemoration of the death anniversary of Lady Umm al-Baneen (peace be upon her) in the Imam al-Hasan (peace be upon him) hall, under the slogan: "Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) - the most loyal brother and the most pious supporter." It is organised by the Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department of the Holy Shrine, in cooperation with Al-Kafeel University.
The competition events were attended by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine, Mr. Abbas Mousa Ahmed, several members of its Board of Directors, department heads, religious, academic, and literary figures, as well as researchers and poets from inside and outside Iraq.
The head of the department, Mr. Aqeel Abdul Hussein Al-Yasiri, said that "the competition aims to encourage poets and writers to present texts related to the biography of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), and to highlight the humanitarian and heroic values he embodies, in addition to supporting literary talents and providing a global platform for competition and excellence in classical poetry."
He added that "the judging committee received 63 poems, from which 10 were shortlisted and recited on the celebration platform," explaining that "the competition witnessed the participation of poets from Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, in addition to Iraq."
Al-Yasiri mentioned that "the 11th edition of the Global Al-Joud Poetry Competition will include a research session during which studies on Lady Umm al-Baneen (peace be upon her) will be discussed."
The International Al-Joud Competition for Classical Poetry is one of the literary initiatives adopted by the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine. It aims to revive the authentic Arabic poetic heritage and enhance the presence of classical poetry as a cultural tributary that reflects the values and principles associated with the biography of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
