The fifth of Rabi Al-Awwal is the death anniversary of the daughter of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him)..

Like in this day, the fifth of Rabi' Al-Awwal of the year 117 AH, the house of prophecy mourned the death of the pure lady Soukaina [Sakeena] the loved daughter of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) and granddaughter of Saint Fatima Az-Zahra daughter of the Holy Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household), her mother was Lady Ar-Rabab daughter of Imro'u Al-Qays Ibnu 'Adiy Ibnu Aws who was a prince in Sham [Syria]. Her name was first Aamenah named after Aamenah Bintu Wahab her great grandmother, the mother of the Holy Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household), her nickname is Sakeena, a derivative word meaning tranquillity, calmness, peace of mind and quietness, and it appears that her mother gave her this title because she was very calm. This is why her real title is “Sakeena” not “Soukaina”, which is a diminutive of “Sakeena”. She joined on her blood the pride of the prophecy from her father Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) and the dignity of the Arab kings from her mother's side.

She (May Allah be pleased with her) was born in the year 47 AH, seven years after the martyrdom of her grandfather Imam Ali (peace be upon him), considering this narration, her age at the martyrdom of her father Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) in the year 61 AH in Karbala was fourteen years old, which she (peace be upon her) has spent under the auspicious supervision of her father the Master of the Martyrs and her brother Zayn Al-Abideen (peace be upon both of them), a direct education from the infallible that had a major impact on her personality from religious, moral, knowledge and also physical aspects. In fact, growing up in family environment that includes great personalities that have reached the highest levels of knowledge, science and discipline. She had of course, the pride to belong to this family, and this honour made souls feel quiet and calm next to her perfection. She was a gracious girl whose enlightening smile, kindness, intelligence made her the affable of her father. Indeed, she was very smart, quick-witted and had a delicate sense, she has high knowledge about the Arabic language details, the secrets of the eloquence, rhetoric and religion's sciences like the rest of the women of Ahl Al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

Thing that made her the Mistress of the women of her time, having the best of manners and being the most ascetic, with high level of rhetoric and eloquence, abundant generosity and wise mind. She was characterized by noble qualities, gracious acts and good merits, and her father Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) spoke himself about her level of worship saying: "Sakeena spends most of her time immersed soundly with God."

This honourable descendant of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) has attended along with her mother Ar-Rabab the bloody tragedy of Karbala with the Master of the Martyrs (peace be upon him). She was the voice of Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) after his martyrdom, as she publicized the injustice that happened to the members of the House of the Prophecy to the whole world, especially during her captivity journey from Kufa to Sham [Syria]. She witnessed all the heart-breaking calamities that befell her father, brothers, uncles and the rest of Bani Hashem and their supporters, and she was one of the captives, walking from Karbala to Kufa, and then to Sham and finally to Medina. When her brother "baby Abdullah" was slaughtered, she was stunned to the point that she couldn't stand to pay farewell to her father Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), and while all the children and the women of the Prophecy's House surrounded him, she remained at her place in tears. The Master of the Martyrs (peace be upon him) stood then at her side and told her few verses to inspire her patience.

After the martyrdom of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), his horse ran back to the tents without him, so Sakeena went out mourning: O Father, O Hussaynah! What a great tragedy! What a great anguish! When the other women heard her, they also went out from the tents and once they have seen his horse, they started striking their cheeks saying: O Mohammadah! The next day when they were captives leaving the battlefield, Sakeena has looked at her father's stripped corpse and saturated in his blood, on the burning sand of Karbala, she had fallen on it, shivering, she hugged him so tight before the final farewell.

This venerable oppressed lady (peace be upon her) has been subjected to a series of lies and fabrications to tarnish her image by hate to her father Abi Abdillah Al-Hussayn (peace be upon her)... Lady Sakeena daughter of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon them) died after 56 years of the Karbala tragedy, in the year 117 AH in Medina and she was then seventy years old.

Peace be upon this honourable and venerable lady of knowledge, the day she was born chaste and pure, the day she left to her God well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], and the day she will arise alive with the holy family of Mohammed (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household).
