The tenth episode of the International Al-Ameed Prize for Quran Recitation in its third edition witnessed the participation of readers from Indonesia, Pakistan, and Iran.
The Quranic Scientific Complex at the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine organizes the competition, with the participation of a select group of readers representing 20 Arab and foreign countries.
The competition is overseen by an international judging panel, consisting of Sheikh Mohamed Basyouni from Egypt, Sheikh Dr. Basim Al-Abadi from Iraq, Dr. Mushtaq Al-Ali from Iraq, Sheikh Mohamed Asfour from Egypt, reciter Mr. Hassanein Al-Helo from Iraq, and Munshid Mr. Karim Mousavi from Iran.
In the tenth episode, the adult category featured reader Muhammad Suhail Khan from Pakistan and reader Mahfouz Abdul Aziz from Indonesia, while the youth category included reader Mahdi Sahebi from Iran.
The episode featured the guest reader Dr. Ahmed Saad, who combines a professional career in dentistry with a proficient Quranic recitation that has been shaped since early childhood.
He recalls his beginnings at the age of five, when he would listen to his mother after every prayer as she recited the Quran with spontaneity and a natural style, despite her lack of mastery in the Maqamat. This left a deep impact on his hearing and emotions. He recounts that he would repeat the verses after her until he discovered his talent and good voice. At the age of six, he joined his first course to learn proper recitation, marking the beginning of the scientific foundation for his voice.
One of his uncles, who was a reader at the shrine of Al-Qasim son of Imam Al-Kadhem (peace be upon them), played an active role in guiding him; the shrine provided a nurturing environment to refine his Quranic personality, as it was a gathering place for the readers of the al-Qasim district. There, he occasionally ascended the shrine's minaret, an early experience that boosted his self-confidence and solidified his performance presence.
And thus, the features of a reader emerged, combining academic discipline in medicine with mastery in recitation, on a journey that began from a simple house and ascended through the pulpit and minaret.
Reader Mahfoud Abdulaziz from Indonesia qualified for the second stage in the adult category, while the contestants in the youth category are waiting for the qualifiers from the upcoming episodes.
The competition is considered one of the contributions of the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine in spreading Quranic culture, as it is the correct method for the betterment of the individual and society, with the participation of readers from Arab and foreign countries.
