It carries 690 tons... The Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine sends the first aid convoy as part of the campaign to support the Iranian people

The Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine sent the first aid convoy as part of its campaign to support the Iranian people, following the recent events in the country.

The caravan set off from the holy city of Karbala in the presence of the Secretary-General of the holy shrine; Sayed Mustafa Murtada Aal Diya-Uddin, his deputy Mr. Abbas Mousa Ahmed, and several members of its board of directors.

Aal Diya-Uddin said: "Under the guidance of the Senior Official of the holy shrine and the representative of the supreme religious authority, His Eminence Sayed Ahmad al-Safi, the first convoy of food and medical supplies donated by the generous Iraqi people to the oppressed Iranian people has departed."

He explained that "the convoy consists of 38 trucks loaded with 690 tons of humanitarian aid, including 670 tons of basic foodstuffs, along with 20 tons of essential medical supplies."

He added that "this stance is not an exception to the policy of the holy shrine and its vision based on the approach of the supreme religious authority, as it has become accustomed to recording its well-known and anticipated positions in crises that afflict humanity in dire circumstances, translating its humanitarian and Islamic vision in serving humanity, meeting its needs, and preserving its dignity."

He continued, "In response to the daily needs of the Iranian people, the noble and loyal to Islam and its people generously donated what their souls could spare in terms of food and the means for a free and dignified living," explaining that "the servants of the holy shrine, under various service titles, volunteered to form the first convoy of food and medical support."

The Secretary-General concluded his speech by supplicating to the Almighty, the Exalted, to protect them with His watchful eye, to safeguard the noble Iranian people, to ward off this unjust aggression from them, and to grant them victory and dignity.

The Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine had launched its humanitarian campaign to support the Iranian and Lebanese peoples in response to the call of the supreme religious authority in the Eid al-Fitr prayer sermon in Karbala, with the formation of specialized committees to manage this campaign.

The holy shrine opened its doors to collect donations through its offices in the departments for receiving gifts, vows, endowments, and religious affairs, inside the holy courtyard of the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), in addition to the gifts and vows unit for female visitors, and the Fatima az-Zahra (peace be upon her) center affiliated with the office of the Senior Official for women's affairs in the holy shrine.

These donations are delivered in coordination between the Office of the Senior Official of the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine and the offices of the supreme religious authority inside and outside Iraq, especially in Iran and Lebanon, with the aim of reaching those affected by this crisis to alleviate their suffering.

This campaign comes as an extension of a series of humanitarian initiatives launched by the holy shrine in previous crises, including support for the Syrian people during the 2023 earthquake, as well as assistance to the residents of Gaza and Lebanese displaced persons in 2024. It has been present in all fields to fulfilll its humanitarian and moral duty.
