The birth of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him): A light that illuminated in the sky of the Imamate and a blessed feast for the angels in the heavens.

On the third of the holy month of Sha'ban, one of the lights of the companions of the Cloak [As'hab Al-Kisa], the five infallible (peace be upon them) shined to be a proof of the truth. On the day when the sun of Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) glowed, his auspicious birthday, the hearts and souls rejoice for the birth of the great immortalizer of Islam, the Master of the martyrs, Al-Hussayn Ibn Ali (peace be upon both of them), who has quenched with his pure blood the land of Karbala to make it a holy land, and he founded with his sacrifices the main basis to maintain the authenticity of the true belief of Islam. He (peace be upon him) was the symbol of patience and of the jihad in the way of Allah, he (peace be upon him) was committed to the Sunnah of his Grand-father Al-Mustafa (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) to save Islam from the greed and filth that were introduced to it by the enemies of Ahl Al-Bayt (peace be upon them), who have oppressed and killed them to take their positions, {They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.} (9:32).

In such night -according to the most famous narrations-, in Medina, a Friday night, the third of the holy month of Sha'ban of the fourth year of Islamic migration, Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) was born after six months of pregnancy, pure and purified. Noting that only Jesus son of Mary and Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon both of them) were born after only six months of pregnancy. The Holy Prophet (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) called his aunt Safiya when he was born: O Aunt! Bring me my son. She said: O Messenger of Allah, we didn't clean him yet. He (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household): O Aunt! You clean him?!? It is the Almighty God who has cleansed and purified him."

In another narration: The Holy Prophet (prayer and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) came to the house of Az-Zahra (peace be upon her) and asked for his son Al-Hussayn, so Asma'e Bint 'Umays brought him, the Messenger of Allah (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) took him and recited the Adhan on his right ear and the Iqamah on his left ear, in the meantime the trustworthy Gabriel (peace be upon him) informed the Messenger of Allah (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) that the name of this new born is "Al-Hussayn", then suddenly the Holy Prophet (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) started crying loud, Asma'e then asked him about the reason in such blessed day, he informed her then that Gabriel told him that evils of his Ummah will kill him in a land called Karbala, and asked her to not tell Fatima (peace be upon her).

On the seventh day after his birth, the Messenger of Allah (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) did his 'Aqiqa with a ram, shaved his hair and gave sadaqa (alms) of its weight out of silver, then he ordered his circumcision.

It is narrated by Sheikh Al-Kulayni in Al-Kafi, from Imam As-Sadeq (peace be upon him) he said: "Al-Hussayn did not breast feed from Fatima (peace be upon her) or from any other women, but the Holy Prophet (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) used to put his finger on Al-Hussayn's mouth, so he sucks it what feeds him for two to three days, so Imam Al-Hussayn's (peace be upon him) body and blood are from the Messenger of Allah (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household).”
