Every month of Ramadan, the servants of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) rush to serve the visitors because of the special character of this holy month of Allah in which the reward of good acts is doubled. Therefore, a large group of the staff of the holy shrine organize many service initiative such as the distribution of tea to the visitors after the Iftar and until suhoor time.
The distribution of tea is a tradition of Karbala that had been in place since the old time with the advent of the month of Ramadan, but was interrupted during the period of the Sha'baan popular uprising in the year 1991, but was revived again after 2003 up to this day.
According to the organizers, the tea is prepared in a very special way, starting by the choice of the tea mix and adding some flavors such as cardamom and rose water in addition to its preparation method, as it is prepared on a very low fire using charcoal wood to give it its distinctive taste making the visitors rush to have a cup of it, coming from far away placed for its wonderful taste and flavor and the good spirit of those serving it, and of course the visitors drink it because they consider it a gift from the blessings of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him).
An external location adjacent to the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine from the side of al-'Alqami gate was allocated to the distribution of this tea to the visitors under the supervision of a group of Sayed servants in the processions' department at the holy shrine, in addition to the participation of a number of the staff of the other departments and volunteers.
On the other hand, the Department of Maqam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his holy reappearance) of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine has also prepared tea and distributed it to the visitors under the supervision of the staff of this department. This service is held daily throughout the holy month of Ramadan to culminate in the nights of al-Qadr and the last ten nights of this holy month.
It is to note that General Secretariat of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine has revived many traditions and rituals that used to be held at the holy shrines of Karbala but were stopped by the former oppressing regime, and thanks to God, they have been reborn in a great spiritual atmosphere.
