In pictures: The servants of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) launches the cleaning of the holy dome.

In order to maintain the sheen and luster of the shrine's dome of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) and to protect it from the erosion of its golden tiles, the servants of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) from the staff of the Department of the shrine's care have started the periodic cleaning works that are conducted continuously according to the weather conditions and climatic fluctuations in the province of Karbala, which affect its luster.

The cleaning works of the dome that has an external circumference of 46.5 m and a diameter of 15 m, takes almost five days, as the works are divided in five sections, each of them is cleaned in one day using special material and equipment such as water and cleaning powders and cotton cloth pieces to dry the gold tiles, because leaving it without drying it may leave marks in form of calcinations that reduce the intensity of luster and the brightness of the dome. The work requires taking into account the factors of time, accuracy and speed in the process of cleaning and water pumping as the gold tiles are fixed by plaster that is quickly affected by water.

The first phase has included cleaning the holy dome starting from the east side of the Euphrates Gate "al-'Alqami" counter clockwise from top to down, i.e. from the holy flag to the base of the dome. And cleaning the minarets will follow.

It is noteworthy that before the last two years, the cleaning works were conducted by staff from outside the holy shrine, but thanks to God the Almighty and with the blessings of the owner of this holy shrine, these cleaning works are conducted today by the Department staff who have gained sufficient experience on how to conduct this cleaning mechanism, so that the holy dome and minarets stay bright to suit the sanctity of the owner of this holy shrine (peace be upon him).
