In a humanitarian initiative added to its previous series of initiatives, the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine bears the costs of installing prostheses for a number of injured patients who had been amputated, after being diagnosed by the specialists in the al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital and taking measurements for each case, prostheses were installed for them by a specialized team of the Dutch Össur Company specialized in manufacturing prostheses through its branch in Iraq.

The Director of the Branch of Iraq of the Össur Prosthetics Company has stated: "The prosthetics are very sophisticated ones and varies between the mechanical, hydraulic and electronic types. The prostheses to be fitted for the amputation of the lower limbs above the knee include various mechanical, hydraulic and electronic joints, in addition to the prostheses under the knee."

He added: "These prostheses are characterized by their excellent quality and very sophisticated technique, and the Össur Company the manufacturer of these prostheses is one of the largest specialized companies in the world that is based in the Netherlands and its plant is in Iceland. Its experts and staff are working to open channels of joint works with al-Kafeel Hospital, which we hope will expand in the future to include other numbers, as previously the company has made the installation of prostheses of six patients in this hospital, and the experience was very successful."

He then indicated: "The foreign subsidiaries Össur Company are working to rehabilitate the patients after the installation of the prosthetics to train them on how to use them, as well as to transfer the expertise to the staff of the al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital."
