In pictures: Ashura condolences processions are flocking to the shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them).

Since the early hours of the morning of the first day of the holy month of Muharram, the two holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) started receiving Ashura condolences processions (Zinjeel and lamentation processions) coming from every direction from the holy city of Karbala, carrying the mourning banners, and beating their chest and lamenting to express their sorrow and grief for the tragedy of the grandson of Holy Prophet; Imam al-Hussayn son of Ali (Allah's prayers be upon them all).

The movement of these condolences' processions, which will continue until the tenth day of the holy month of Muharram, was based on a time and place schedule established by the Department of Processions and the Hussayni bodies of the two holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) to ensure their smooth movement and the non-intersection.

The Zinjeel procession began since the first day of the holy month of Muharram taking as path the streets leading to the holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) ending at the holy shrine of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) after passing through the shrine of his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him).

The procession consists of two parallel lines of mourners wearing black cloths, led by young men bearing white and colored flags, and others carrying a banner of the name of the procession, including the drummers, and those playing damams with curved sticks and those with copper cymbals, as well as percussionists that harmonize the horns' sounds, and unite the movement of the Zinjeel procession members, who turn half circle with the sound of the Radood accompanying every procession and who is reciting poems about Ashura tragedy, and the iron Zinjeel are rise to the top and then hit the back uniformly.

It is worth mentioning that the service and condolences processions that participate in the rituals of Ziyarat Ashura are dedicated to the people of the holy city of Karbala throughout the first thirteen days of Muharram, which is a condolence tradition that is performed for more than hundreds of years.
