The Martyrdom of Saint Ruqayyah daughter of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon both of them).

After the martyrdom of the Master of martyrs (peace be upon him), the captives of the house of prophecy had to pass through numerous other tragic events that have shown them more of the hatred, oppression and injustice of the Umayyad on Ahl Al-Bayt (peace be upon them), among which the martyrdom of Lady Ruqayyah, daughter of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon them), which took place on the fifth day of the month of Safar in 61AH, when Ahl Al-Bayt (peace be upon them) were imprisoned in the dungeon of Sham (Syria), in which Lady Ruqayyah (peace be upon her) has seen in her dreams her father Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), so she woke up heartbroken, crying and started to look for her father everywhere. All the ladies tried to console her so she would stop crying but she didn't get any peace and continued crying, "O my dear aunt where is my father a few minutes ago I was with my father and he kissed me and said to me that my dear Ruqayyah you will soon be with me. But where is my father now?"

All the ladies and children started to cry and now this noise of crying had woken up Yazid (may Allah curse him) who sent his servants to ask why they were crying. They informed him that saint Ruqayyah (peace be upon her) missed her father and that is why she was crying, and Yazid, for his sadistic pleasure, ordered them to send the severed head of Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) to the prison and when she received the head of her father she started to cry even more and held it very tight and asked her father: “Who covered you with your blood? O father, who cut off your head, O father, who made me orphan on my young age? O father, to whom we are left after you? O father, who will take care of the orphan till she grown up?...”

She put then her small lips on his holy lips and cried heavily until she lost conscience, and there was a silence in the cell. Everyone thought that Ruqayyah had finally gone to sleep again, Imam As-Sajjad (peace be upon him) called his aunt Lady Zaynab (peace be upon her): "O Aunt, raise up Ruqayyah from my father's head, she died!" This has renewed the sorrow and affliction of Ahl Al-Bayt (peace be upon them) who started crying and mourning once more.

She (peace be upon her) was only three years old when she assisted to the advent of Karbala, and she witnessed with her own eyes the events of the great tragedy that befell on her father Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), his family and companions, she suffered with the rest of her family from the captivity from Karbala to Kufa, then to Sham... Her call: "Where is my father?" has shaken the pillars of the oppressors' thrones, and it was "A Right word in front of an unjust ruler." Lady Ruqayyah (peace be upon her) was buried by her brother Imam As-Sajjad (peace be upon him). Her clothes were burnt in Karbala, and due to injuries, had intermingled with her flesh. Therefore, she was buried in the same burnt and ripped clothes right there in the Dungeon of Syria.

“Peace be upon you, O portion of the liver of the one who was totally covered with blood, Peace be upon you, O child of the one who was unjustly killed in Karbala, Peace be upon you, O pampered one of Al-Hussayn the Martyr, peace, Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon him. Peace be upon you, O one brought up in the house of piety, Peace be upon you, O one born in the house of self-esteem, Peace be upon you, O small one of the Pillar of Guidance, Peace be upon you, O martyr of grieving and weeping, Peace be upon you, O one who was killed by patience at adversity, Peace, Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you, O one who much denounced and pleaded.

Peace be upon the weeping, complaining, mourning one, Peace be upon the wailing captive, Peace be upon the one orphaned while still a child, Peace be upon the one of the great grief at the loss of one who was affectionate and merciful to her, Peace be upon the one of the grief-repressing heart, Peace, Allah's mercy and blessings be upon the one of the over-flowing tearful eyes, upon the one having a moaning that tears the hearts apart, Due to the successive of calamities, Due to what happened to her in the land of afflictions.

Peace be upon you, one with the self-esteemed soul! Peace be upon you, O captive descendant of Al-Hussayn! Peace be upon you, O daughter of the Muhammadi celestial lights! Peace be upon you, O branch of the Alawi Fatimi Tree! O little one of Al-Hussayn! O Ruqayyah, Peace, mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you!
