The second phase of the project of strengthening and gilding the sanctuary of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him).

The head of the engineering projects department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine; Eng. Dea' Majed al-Sa'egh, announced the start of the second phase of the project of strengthening and re-gilding the walls of the Great Gold Iwan, known as al-Taremah, which will include the main door leading to the holy sanctuary facing the Qibla gate of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), after the completion of the first phases, which included parts on the left and right sides.

Adding: "This stage will be complementary to the stage that preceded it and will increase the aesthetic aspect of the holy shrine and the preservation of its physical facilities and work to maintain and sustain it continuously while preserving the architectural and heritage architecture with a cultural imprint of high durability and efficiency, and according to the technical and engineering plans that have been approved."

Adding: "The most important work that will conducted in this stage; the removal of the old bricks and the maintenance of the gate's walls, which is a very important stage because the ancient bricks and the ancient foundations are a muddy layer with depths below the soil and there is no insulating layer between it and the ground, causing high humidity, which was reflected negatively on the wall and affected the surface of the plate of gold copper covering it, which led to its oxidation."

Indicating: "The technical staff will remove the old golden bricks, as well as the plaster waste and the old bonding materials, then they will carry out the maintenance of the wall and treat its cracks and damages. The wall will be reinforced with a concrete wall that supports the wall, connecting these two walls by special iron bars to be one piece, with the addition of some materials that increase the cohesion of the wall and increase its ability to bear the weight of the sanctuary's roof."

It is to note that the project was the result of several studies and laboratory tests carried out by a group of experts and specialists in this field, to determine the tolerance of the walls of the Taremah and columns of the weight of the new roof of the holy shrine, as it later showed the lack of readiness and ability to bear these weights for the project of roofing. The work has been then divided in several stages starting by the pillars of the Taremah and its wall up to the main gate.
