With the participation of 160 learners: The al-Abbas's (p) Holy shrine concludes the basic stage of the literacy project.

The closing ceremony of the basic phase of the literacy project adopted by the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine in Karbala in coordination with the directorate with the Directorate of Education according to a curriculum compatible with the curricula of the Iraqi Ministry of Education was held Saturday afternoon the 4th of Rabi' Thani 1439 AH corresponding to the December 23, 2017 in the hall of Imam al-Hassan (peace be upon him) in the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine.

The ceremony began with the recitation of verses of the Holy Quran, and then a speech of the project's supervisor, delivered by Sayed Mohamad Abd al-Redha al-Musawi, who explained that this project is part of a series of educational and development projects launched by the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, aiming through it to contribute to help the illiterate to learn to read and write and master it at a level that ensures them a good communal coexistence and helps them to develop and get rid of the problem of ignorance.

He added that "160 students participated in this phase of the project, 87 of them succeeded. The education continued for six months in 11 centers, including two centers belonging to the popular mobilization and 9 centers in Hussayniyat and mosques in the center of Karbala governorate and beyond. The curriculum followed the same approach as the Iraqi Ministry of Education. At the end of this stage, the next stage; the preliminary stage will start, and teachers have made during this period extraordinary efforts in order to make this project successful, and we have found there is a clear response and interest from the beneficiaries, which encouraged us to continue."

On behalf of the educational body in the project, Mr. Majid Sarhan directed his thanks and gratitude to the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine for sponsoring this project, which served a large class of society and transfer them from one stage to another with an acceptable success rate.

The ceremony was concluded by the distribution of appreciation certificates and gifts to the successful learners in addition to honoring the teachers of this project.

It is to note that the project was implemented after taking the fundamental approvals from the Iraqi Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Directorate of Education of Karbala and under the supervision of specialized teachers who were subject to specialized courses on how to perform this educational task, in addition to the creation of special places to give the lessons, such as the Hussaynyat and mosques located in the neighborhoods of the province of Karbala that are converted to classrooms.
