The Tenth of the holy month of Rajab is the auspicious birth anniversary of the ninth light of the Imamate; Imam Mohammad Al-Jawad (peace be upon him), who is venerated by the lovers and followers of Ahl Al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
Imam Al-Jawad is Mohammad son of Ali son of Musa son of Ja'far son of Mohammad son of Ali son of Al-Hussayn son of Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (peace be upon all of them). His nickname is Abu Ja'far or Abu Ja'far thani (second) to differentiate him from Imam Al-Baqer (peace be upon him). His mother is Lady Sakina Al-Marsiyah named Khayzuran who was a bondmaid, and his wife is Lady Sumanah the Moroccan who was also a bondmaid.
Imam Mohammad Al-Jawad (peace be upon him) occupied the highest position in human virtues and moral attainments as this was the marked feature of the Prophet’s family. It was customary for the Imam to meet everyone humbly, fulfill the needs of the poor, maintain Islamic requisites of equality and simplicity, help the poor secretly, treat even foes fairly, extend hospitality, impart true Islamic knowledge to all and specially to the scholars of religion and the like, marked his saintly life-in full conformity with other members of this sacred series of infallible Imams.
Among his titles: Al-Taqi, Al-Zaki, Al-Qane', Al-Murtada, Al-Muntajab and Al-Jawad, which the most famous title because of his abundant generosity. He was also called by "Bab Al-Murad" after his death, as most of the supplications are answered at his holy shrine.
As for his blessed birth, Lady Hakima, the daughter of Imam Musa Al-Kadhem (peace be upon him) said: When I went to Khayzuran (Imam's mother) on the time she was giving birth, Abu Al-Hassan took me and her to a room and closed the door, and the midwife was with us. When it became dark at night, the light turned off and we were gloomed for this. Suddenly, Abu Ja'far (Al-Jawad) came out like a full moon, he was in the basin, and something soft like a thin cloth was on him, shining to enlighten the house so we see him. In the morning Imam Ar-Redha (peace be upon him) came and put him in the cradle and said to me: Stay next to his cradle. She said: on the third day he raised his eyes to the sky and looked right and left, then he said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. And I bear witness that Mohammad is His messenger." Then I stood up scared and shivering, and I went to Ar-Redha (peace be upon him), and I told him: I have seen a strange thing! He (peace be upon him) said: What have you seen? I said: I told him what happened. She said: then Abu Al-Hassan Ar-Redha (peace be upon him) smiled and said: O Hakima, you will see more of his miracles."
