A quality and complex surgery was conducted with success at the AlKafeel Super Speciality Hospital of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, by removing a brain tumor of a five-year-old child suffering from Bell's palsy that is a type of facial paralysis that results in an inability to control the facial muscles on the affected side as well as symptoms such as drooping of the eyelid. The tumor was formed in the area of the brain stem where the brain meets the spinal cord, which makes the surgery very complex.
The operation was conducted by a medical team led by the Turkish doctor; Dr. Ali King Ta'd, who stated: "It is one of the most dangerous operations of the nervous system globally, and it is unique in Iraq and the region. The tumor is located in the brain stem area where the brain meets with the spinal cord, an area called life area as it makes any attempt of surgery very sensitive, dangerous and complex."
He added: "The presence of tumor in the area of the brain stem could have killed the patient if its eradication and treatment were delayed. The surgery of removing the tumor lasted more than five hours, and it was fully successful and the health status of the child was stable after (24) hours of the operation and he is out of Intensive Care Unit".
He concluded: "This operation is one of the most dangerous, most distinctive and major quality processes of nerve synthesis globally and at the level of Iraq and the countries of the region, because we have succeeded in removing fully the tumor and did not follow the method of removing only part of it and treating the rest with radiation and chemotherapy as is customary in this jurisdiction. All factors for the success of this operation were provided, most important of which is the advanced medical equipment of the hospital in addition to the medical staff with expertise in it. "
It is worth mentioning that the AlKafeel Super Speciality Hospital of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine has performed hundreds of surgical operations since its establishment in various medical specialities. Most of them were successful, thanks to two factors: The Iraqi and foreign medical teams and the modernity of its medical devices. These two factors were crowned by the blessings of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) to achieve a high success rate.
