The two holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) hold their first international conference in the United Nations headquarters.

The two holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) hold their first international conference "Reclaiming the Intellectual Primacy and Promote Just, Peaceful and Inclusive Societies" in cooperation with the Imam Khoei Foundation and the Scientific Alliance for Research and Heritage, on Monday morning the 28th of Muharram 1440 AH corresponding to October 9, 2018 in the Economic Council Hall in the United Nations headquarters in New York, with the presence of personalities and delegations representing religious and academic bodies from various countries and sects.

The conference started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the word of the organizing body of the conference delivered by Sheikh Fadhel al-Sahlani, in which he stated: "It is a pleasure and a privilege to hold this conference in cooperation with the holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them), which we hope will achieve the objectives from which it was established, to come out with the results beyond the scope of research discussion, and contribute to solving some of the problems experienced by the world. We have differences, which is normal, but there are ways and mechanisms to address this difference and encircle it depending on the common basis."

This was followed by a speech by a member of the preparatory committee for the conference, Mr. Maitham Radawi of the Imam Khoei Foundation and its representative in the United Nations building, in which he presented the conference, its axes and the number of researchers. He said: "The conference was focused on three axes, chosen by a specialized scientific committee to fit the nature of the requirements of the current situation, the axes are:

- Leadership of thought.

- Social Justice.

- Heritage.

The researches were distributed on these axes by four researches for each axis, calling on the attendees and participants to work on translating the outputs of this conference on the ground.”

Then, a televised speech was delivered by Prince al-Hassan Ibn Talal, in which he raised a number of issues related to the suffering of the Islamic Ummah in particular and the world in general, from cases that are extraneous to humanity and to the teachings of Islam, which are calling for the love, tolerance and the acceptance of the other."

After that, the research sessions of the conference were opened in the midst of interaction of the attendees.

It is worth mentioning that the role of the two holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) was not limited to the organization, but they has active participation with three researches of the Imam al-Hussayn's (p) holy shrine and two researches of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine will be presented.

The participation of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine in this important international event comes because it represents -like the rest of the holy shrines- the father of all Muslims, especially the followers and lovers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), and also because it is a school for the courage, sacrifice, brotherhood and pride. The school that has taught the world over the ages how sacrifices can be in order to protect the right from misrepresentation and falsehood.

It has worked, since the establishment of its cultural and scientific institutions, with the method of moderation and centrality, to be able to repel Takfiri attacks facing the Islamic Ummah and to address the intellectual deviations in the Muslim community, harnessing for this purpose great efforts through the organization of many events, activities and conferences inside and outside Iraq, calling for this approach and its consolidation in the Iraqi society and in the world in general.
