Opening the first international conference on Information and Libraries.

In continuation to the series of international specialized conferences, the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, represented by the Indexing and Information Systems Center of the Library and Manuscript House, and the Faculty of Arts at Mustansiriya University in collaboration with the Arab Federation of Libraries, opened the first international conference on information and libraries under the title: "Knowledge organization in the digital environment on Wednesday morning the 21st of Jumada II 1440 AH, corresponding to February 27, 2019, in the large hall at the university and which will continue for two days in the presence and participation of a number of public figures and security leaders, as well as a group of researchers and lecturers from various Iraqi, Arab and international universities.

The opening session of the conference included the word of the University President Prof. Sadiq Mohammed Al-Hamash who stated that this conference is held in light of the University's policy to move from paperwork to digital work, in line with the new vision of the Ministry of Higher Education in launching a comprehensive educational revolution to modernize curricula and educational programs to move to the e-learning.

This was followed by the word of the head of the Department of Education and Higher Education in the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, Dr. Abbas al-Dadah.

In her turn, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Mustansiriya University Dr. Farida Jassim Dara affirmed that the conference aims at addressing the modern applications in the field of indexing standards and systems, discussing the issues related to indexing in the digital environment in Arab libraries as well as discussing the possibility of enhancing Arab cooperation in digitalization in different knowledge fields.

The conference, entitled "Organizing Digital Knowledge for the Advancement of the Scientific and Educational Reality", will include 36 Researchers from Britain, Iran, Algeria, Egypt, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine, focusing on four axes: academic qualification in the field of digital organization, definition of the digital environment, methods and tools for organizing knowledge in the digital environment, applications of standards, lists and modern systems, information institutions and their role in organizing digital knowledge.

On the sidelines of the opening of the conference, the first postage stamp was issued for Mustansiriya University on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of its founding, as well as the opening of an exhibition of rare documents and manuscripts.
