The Supreme Religious Authority denounces the recent crimes of the terrorist ISIL gangs and declares its solidarity with the Yazidis.

The Supreme Religious Authority denounced with the strongest terms the recent crimes committed by the terrorist ISIL gangs in Nukhayb and Tharthar and expressed its solidarity with the Yazidis, whose girls were subjected to rape and killing crimes, considering it a barbarism and savagery act that has no similar in the current time.

This was the statement of the Supreme Religious Authority by its representative Sheikh Abd al-Mahdi al-Karbala’i in the second sermon of Friday prayers of the 23rd of Jumada II 1440 AH corresponding to March 1, 2019, which was held in the holy shrine of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), saying:

“I would like to refer to the horrific crime recently reported by some media of the finding of 50 cut heads of young Yazidi girls who were kidnapped and raped by the ISIL terrorists. We cannot express with words our condemnation of this brutality and barbarism, which has no similar in the current time. And while we express our solidarity with our people and citizens of the Yazidis on this painful occasion, we call on the concerned authorities in the Iraqi government and international organizations to follow up on the crimes of ISIL and document it, to prosecute the perpetrators and hold them accountable. Also a few days ago, new attacks were perpetrated by the fugitive elements of ISIL in the desert of Nukhayb and at Lake of Tharthar, after which a number of our dear young people were killed while they were working there. As we condemn these crimes and attacks, we call on the Iraqi government to take necessary measures to prevent their recurrence, to track the fugitive ISIL elements, and not allow them to disrupt security and stability in any part of Iraq.”
