The al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine contributes to the improvement and dissemination of improved sheep breeds.

The al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine adopted many projects, including those in the agricultural fields and animal wealth, seeking to develop it and because of the neglect and decline of the government to this sector. Among these projects is the station Aba al-Fadl Abbas (peace be upon him) for the breeding of livestock and sheep belonging to the Department of Agricultural Affairs and Livestock in the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, which was built in a modern model that meets all the conditions and scientific elements, aiming to upgrade sheep breeding projects and increase the productivity, being one the finest sheep breeding stations in the country.

The head of the Agricultural Affairs and Livestock wealth Department; Eng. Ali Maz'el Layedh, stated to al-Kafeel Network: "The station, which was founded in 2011, aims to contribute and improve the national livestock through raising good species of sheep, including Al Nuaimi, Al Awasi and other types".

He added: "The beginning was based on a studied methodology of 740 sheep, and today, thank God, the project has reached doubles of that number so as to ensure the achievement of the objective for which the project was established, which can be summarized as follows:

1 - Preserving the rare and good strains of sheep and work to increase them.

2 - Conducting successful scientific experiments to ensure the best results, because it is a research station and a field of many experiments.

3 - Contributing to the employment of labor, especially those with experience and competence in this area.

4- Supplying the local market with fresh meat, which contributed to cover 10 to 15% of the needs of the market in Karbala and Najaf with subsidized prices to help the poor to be able to buy the product at those prices.

5 - Breeding and introduction of new types and varieties, and work to increase them in accordance with the Iraqi atmosphere.

6 - Contributing to the development and improvement of the national herd of sheep and support the national and local economy.

7 - The multiplication of improved qualities in government stations and educators as well.

8 - Support the host restaurant of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine to reduce the purchasing cost of meat purchased and introduced in its meals, especially as the numbers visiting the host restaurant is constantly increasing.

9 - Prepare plans to improve the local and Arab varieties using modern techniques and hormones, and focus on the desired breeds.

10 - The station provides guiding and technical services for the breeding and care of sheep."

"The total area of ​​the project is about 450 dunums invested in the deserts of Karbala, divided into 10 arches dedicated to ewes and sheep as well as those for fattening and birth. The area of ​​each of them is 1600 square meters equipped with all necessary needs and requirements. We have also provided these sheep with natural fields planted with various fodder crops. "

"The number of annual births is more than 1,600 births per year, and the species of rams we choose in the fertilization process are among the finest of the existing rams, the process is conducted under the supervision of a cadre of specialized veterinarians, as well as nutrition engineers and a working team that manages the work of the station."
