On the fourth of Sha'ban, the universe was illuminated by the birth of the moon of Bani Hashim.

In the fourth of the holy month of Sha'ban, the moon of Bani Hashem, Al-Abbas son of Ali (peace be upon both of them) was born, and with his birth loyalty and brotherhood have seen light, the banner of the Hashemi pride and Alawi ardour has flattered and the joy and happiness waves filled the homes of the prophecy house. Their bright moon has enlightened the world with his virtues and exploits, adding to the Hashemites immortal glory thanks to his sacrifices for the sake of this religion and as redemption of the infallible Imam, to whom we are obliged to obey, the Master of the youth in Paradise, Abi Abdillah Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him). Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) is the symbol of the Championships, sacrifice and redemption. Each time we read his Ziyarat we say: "I testify, and call Allah to witness, that you abided by the same course that was taken by the warriors of (the battle of) Badr and the strivers for Allah’s sake who sincerely served Him in the battlefields against His enemies, did their bests for supporting His disciples, and defended His intimate ones. So, Allah may reward you the best, the maximum, the most abundant, and the most conclusive reward that He may give to anyone who fulfills his homage, answers the call (of the religion), and obeys his (divinely elected) leaders..."

The house of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was filled with joy and hope; because the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) was seeing in this new born, his son's banner bearer, the one who will redeem Al-Hussayn son of Fatima (peace be upon both of them) with his soul.

When Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) was born, his father Imam Ali (peace be upon him) took him to read the Adhan on his right ear and the Iqamah of his left ear following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household), and called him Al-Abbas.

On the seventh day of the birth of Aba Al-Fadl (peace be upon him), the Imam the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) shaved the baby's head and gave its weight of gold as charity to the poor and made his Aqeeqah with a ram like did the Messenger of Allah (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) with Al-Hassan and Al-Hussayn (peace be upon both of them) and in accordance with the Sunnah.

The author of the book "The moon of Bani Hashem" mentioned that Um Al-Baneen (peace be upon her) has seen the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) one day, putting Aba Al-Fadl (peace be upon him) on his thigh, uncovered his arms, kissed them and cried. She (peace be upon her) was surprised to see a boy with Alawi virtues when his father looks at him cries without a reason, but Imam Ali (peace be upon him) told her the secrets of what will happen to his hands that will cut in the support of his brother Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) so she also cried very loud. In fact, on the birth of Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) the House of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was filled with joy for the coming of this new born who will be a hero, and with grief and tears for the cutting of his hands and his killing in the future in Karbala.

Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) grew up in the house of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in the lap of his loyal and faithful mother, and besides his brothers Imams Al-Hassan Al-Hussayn (Peace be upon both of them) and has learned from the holy Household of Allah's Messenger (prayers and Allah's peace be upon him and his holy Household) great lessons in humanity, sincerity and high morals. And undoubtedly, the education of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) has a significant impact in the construction of the intellectual, physical and psychological personality of this boy, who grow up knowing that he was born for redeeming the Proof of Allah on earth in the day of Ashura.

Imam As-Sadeq (peace be upon him) always appreciated his uncle, Al-Abbas (peace be upon him). He always remembered him by praising and admiring him. He was highly grateful to his heroic stances and sacrifices especially those he made during the event of Ashura. Imam As-Sadeq (peace be upon him) has said: “My uncle Al-Abbas had a strong faith and profound insight. He fought for the sake of God along with his brother, Imam Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him). He was able to successfully pass the test and was eventually martyred…” So peace be upon you, O Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas son of the Commander of the Faithful, on your soul and our body the day you were born, the day you were martyred and the day you will sent alive with the people of Prophecy's House (peace be upon them) the day of resurrection.
