Workshops and lectures hosted by the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine aimed at combating the scourge of illiteracy.

On the morning of the 17th Sha'ban 1440 AH corresponding to April 23, 2019, the Imam Hassan Hall (peace be upon him) embraced the opening activities of the conference and the development workshops in the field of literacy held for the period (23-25 ​​April), under the slogan: "Eliminating illiteracy is the responsibility of all", which is organized by the Executive Office for Literacy in the Iraqi Ministry of Education in cooperation with the al-Abbas's (peace be upon him) Fighting Squad and the Directorate of Education Karbala province and under the auspices of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine. This conference comes within the initiatives of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, represented by the al-Abbas's (p) Fighting Squad aiming to the Scientific and educational development in the Iraqi society.

The opening ceremony of the conference, which witnessed an academic and government presence, started by reciting verses from the Holy Quran, followed by recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in honor of the martyrs of Iraq and then listening to the Iraqi national anthem and anthem of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine; Tune of Pride.

Then came the speech of the General Secretariat of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine delivered by a member of its board, Dr. Abbas Rashid Al-Musawi, in which he asserted: "Having secured its supreme and most important objective, which is to serve the visitor. The al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine started aiming another goal, which is serving the society, by foremost through the path of science that needs concern and care."

Followed by the speech of the Director of Education of the province of Karbala, Mr. Abbas Awdah, who said: "The illiteracy is a scourge as science and knowledge is the right of all. Therefore preventive and remedial measures for this situation must be identified."

Then there was a speech by the head of the Executive Office for Literacy at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Hafdi Rashid Al Halbusi, in which he said: "The attention of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine to an important subject such as illiteracy is proof of its importance and the dangers that it will have on society in the event of its outbreak."

Then came the speech of the Director of the Department of Religious Guidance in the al-Abbas's (Peace be upon him) Fighting Squad Sheikh Qassim Jabouri, reviewing the stages of the literacy project for the fighters of the al-Abbas (peace be upon him) fighting squad, as well as the steps taken by the squad in order to make this project successful in cooperation with the Directorate Education of the holy province of Karbala.

This was followed by the words of Dr. Mushtaq Abbas, the educational assistant in the Department of Education at the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, in which he highlighted the importance of science and knowledge in Islam and in life in general.

The conference also included a short film showing the experience of the literacy project of the al-Abbas's (peace be upon him) fighting squad.

The three-day workshops and lectures will then take place on a number of topics, all of which aim to promote the creation of effective tools to combat illiteracy. The ceremony was then concluded with the distribution of shields to those who contributed to the success of this project.
