The al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine revives the Hnidiyah River in Karbala

In a new initiative within its efforts to beautify the holy city of Karbala, the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine gave new spirit to the al-Hnidiyah river, which once was one of the most beautiful recreational areas. As after being a space of fresh and pure air, a place with one can swim and spend a nice time, the river became in a state of disrepair due to negligence of concerned government bodies, and many of its parts turned into dump of waste and its state distorted the image of the city.

And after the failure of previous efforts to improve the situation or address its problems, the Service Affairs Department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine worked on it to extricate it from being a source of pollution and dump of waste to a beautiful site for the families living nearby, through decorating its sides by stones in decorative forms to give it Aesthetics and elegance.

The head of the service department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine Haj Khalil al-Hanoun stated to Al-Kafeel Network: "After the appeals of the residents living next to this river, we sought within our possibilities to redevelop it in a proper manner, with the work of cladding, building bridges and modifying the banks to reduce water waste and preserve it from sewage and waste, etc., the work is carried out in coordination with the Directorate of Water Resources and the Municipality of the province, with the design and implementation of the staffs of our department, which have the expertise and skill that qualify them for the design and establishment of such projects."

He added: "The rehabilitation work has been preceded by many works, including: conducting study and site data of the river, and then the designs were prepared to be followed by the rehabilitation work, which was divided in stages, including the first phase of a hundred meters from the side of the street Mohammed al-Amin, and the other phases will follow to rehabilitate the whole river length (3 km) by the funding and implementation of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine.

And Al-Hanoun explained: "The rehabilitation work included:

- Cleaning the river and lift old fences, rubble and waste.

- Cladding the river sides with stone in decorative forms.

- Putting bridges on the river to facilitate the movement between the two sides.

- Installing waterfalls and water fountains on the river.

- Construction of modern lighting network.

- Cultivation of a group of permanent and seasonal trees on the upper river ridges.

- Laying tables and chairs along the river course.

- Packaging and paving of the ground by the rocky Muqarnas Kashi.”
