The most important points stated by the Supreme Religious Authority in the second sermon of Friday prayer

The supreme religious authority stated in the second sermon of Friday prayer of the 27th Muharram 1441 AH corresponding to September 27, 2019, which was held in the holy shrine of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), which was led His Eminence Sheikh Abd al-Mahdi al-Karbala'i, important moral and educational points in relation to our reality, through the study of the Treatise on Rights of Imam as-Sajjad (peace be upon him), such as:

  • The treasures of science, knowledge and educational and moral approach left for us by Imam Zayn Al-'Abideen (peace be upon him), and that are important for our life in this world and in the hereafter.
  • We are in need to take the proper divine treatment explained by Imam Zayn Al-'Abideen (peace be upon him).
  • Reminding these phenomena, diagnosing and treating them is not just to recall the historic facts but a connection of the past and present to benefit from the treasures of Imam Zayn Al-'Abideen (peace be upon him), considering them as a practical curriculum for the situation we are living.
  • Important narration of Imam Ali ibn Musa ar-Redha (peace be upon him): “May God have Mercy upon anyone who revives our affairs.’ Abu al-Salt al-Harawi asked the Imam (peace be upon him), “How can one revive your affairs?” The Imam (peace be upon him) said, “He can learn our knowledge and teach it to the people. If the people get informed of those good teachings, they would follow us.’”
  • One of the important means in reviving the matter of our imams (peace be upon them) is to set up councils to teach their knowledge, and try to apply them in our lives. Such as Nahj al-Balagha [Peak of eloquence] of Imam Ali ibn Abi Taleb (peace be upon him) and Risalat al-Hoqooq [Treatise of rights] of Imam as-Sajjad (peace be upon him).
  • One of the fundamental causes of our problems, disputes and differences is the neglect of each other's rights.
  • One of us demands the respect of his rights, and if not he starts problems and conflicts. But does the same person takes into account the rights of others on him or not?!
  • The issue of the rights is important as it should be mutual. At the same time we demand our rights we have duties, whether at the small scale of the family, between husband and wife, parents and children, or at a larger scale in the society.
  • One of the fundamental reasons for our problems, backwardness, underdevelopment and misery, is that we demand our rights without caring for other's rights. We are not in a state of equilibrium.
  • We should read the teachings of the Imam as-Sajjad (peace be upon him) in our houses, schools, universities and in our institutions as well as in our Hussayni councils.
  • So we educate ourselves on the rights included in it, which start by the right of God on us, and then the right of our body on us, the right of the members of society on us and so on.
  • The Imam (peace be upon him) has shown in some of these rights, the rights of the right social coexistence starting from within the family, by highlighting the husband's rights on the wife and the wife's rights on the husband, as well as the parents' rights.
  • I draw your attention to this right, especially in these days, as we observe the lack of respect for the rights of parents, the Imam (peace be upon him) said in the statement of the right of the father: "The right of your father is that you know that he is your root. Without him, you would not be. Whenever you see anything in yourself which pleases you, know that your father is the root of its blessing upon you. So praise God and thank Him in that measure. And there is no strength save in God."
  • And he (peace be upon him) says about the right of the mother: "The right of your mother is that you know that she carried you where no one carries anyone, she gave to you of the fruit of her heart that which no one gives to anyone, and she protected you with all her organs. She did not care if she went hungry as long as you ate, if she was thirsty as long as you drank, if she was naked as long as you were clothed, if she was in the sun as long as you were in the shade. She gave up sleep for your sake, she protected you from heat and cold, all in order that you might belong to her. You will not be able to show her gratitude, unless through God's help and giving success."
  • Thus, one should never forget the great sacrifices made by the parents and act with them accordingly.
  • The Imam (peace be upon him) also teaches us the right of our teachers on us: "The right of the one who trains you (sa'is) through knowledge is magnifying him, respecting his sessions, listening well to him, and attending to him with devotion. You should not raise your voice toward him. You should never answer anyone who asks him about something, in order that he may be the one who answers. You should not speak to anyone in his session nor speak ill of anyone with him. If anyone ever speaks ill of him in your presence, you should defend him. You should conceal his faults and make manifest his virtues. You should not sit with him in enmity or show hostility toward him in friendship. If you do all of this, God's angels will give witness for you that you went straight to him and learned his knowledge for God's sake, not for the sake of the people."
  • And then he (peace be upon him) highlights the rights of subjects through knowledge: "The right of your subjects through knowledge is that you should know that God made you a caretaker over them only through the knowledge He has given you and His storehouses which He has opened up to you. If you do well in teaching the people, not treating them roughly or annoying them, then God will increase His bounty toward you. But if you withhold your knowledge from people or treat them roughly when they seek knowledge from you, then it will be God's right to deprive you of knowledge and its splendour and to make you fall from your place in people's hearts."
  • And as the new school year will soon start, there are three points to highlight:
  • To convey the knowledge and science fully complete and clear. The teachers must make sure that they deliver the sciences they are teaching without ambiguity, and then explain them in a simple way that would be easily understood.
  • To be a patient and careful companion. The journey of science is difficult and needs patience and kindness to teach the students in the best ways.
  • An important point for the teachers, professors and presidents of universities and schools administrations in addition to families; specialized sciences without discipline, education and ethics is useless.
  • We should take care of giving the good education and teaching discipline and good morals to the students at the same level we convey the knowledge to protect the students from the pitfalls of drugs, immorality and deviation from the correct ethical path.
  • Therefore, we ask all educational institutions of different names to pay sufficient attention to these two basic areas.
