With a complicated five-hour surgical operation, a medical team at the Kafeel Specialized Hospital of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine saved the life of a protester who was wounded by shrapnel in the head during the events in the recent demonstrations in Karbala Governorate.
The Turkish physician in neurosurgery at the hospital; Mustafa Agkun, said in a press interview: “A medical team headed by us succeeded in performing a surgical operation to remove a fragment from the depth of the eye socket of a 17-year-old man from Karbala governorate,” explaining: “The young man was injured during the demonstrations, and the al-Kafeel specialized hospital conducted the operation free of charge with the participation of one of the Iraqi nervous system surgeons and one Turkish specialist in ophthalmology.
Dr. Agcon considered that the operation was complicated and lasted for more than five hours, and succeeded as a result of the efficiency of the medical team and the availability of its requirements from the devices and techniques in the hospital," stressing: "The health of the injured young person after the operation is stable and he will leave the hospital after a few days."
It is noteworthy that the Kafeel Specialized Hospital announced at the beginning of December (2019), the provision of medical services to more than (1584) injured demonstrators, while it revealed that a number of them were suffering from severe injuries and they need special care, in addition to providing medical materials and treatment of cases of many of the demonstrators of Dhi Qar Governorate.
