In a deliberate and pioneering step of its kind in the holy thresholds of Karbala, the establishment of the most difficult project in the holy thresholds of Iraq, the Iraqi engineering creativity started to complete what the ancestors established of the holy thresholds and shrines, but this time, the establishment is of an underground sanctuary at the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) named: (the basement of Imam al-Jawad" peace be upon him "). The project is bold in its concept, new in its design and implementation, modern in the techniques of its construction, a step that challenges the natural conditions of the place and the human movement in the place. The holy thresholds of Karbala are welcoming the largest number of visitors and religious tourists in the world and the movement is never interrupted. Therefore, the establishment of such project inside the holy shrine is a real challenge and its completion is a great achievement, considering the presence of several millions of visitors every year but millions of visitors weekly in special occasions in addition to tens of thousands visitors every day in the sanctuary's area that does not exceed (6,400 m 2). But the decision has been taken and works started to make the dream become true and the goal of vertical expansion is being achieved, but this time underground, to accommodate the growing numbers of crowds of visitors and to be a haven for visitors.
